There are few London dining rooms as storied, polished or instantly recognisable as Savoy Grill. Set within The Savoy, the legendary hotel that has defined riverside glamour since 1889, the restaurant occupies a rare place in the capital’s culinary imagination: elegant without being fragile, theatrical without being excessive, and steeped in the kind of history that seems to linger in the wood panelling, white tablecloths and low golden light.
The Savoy has long stood at the centre of London’s social and cultural life. Opened by Richard D’Oyly Carte beside the Savoy Theatre, the hotel was built with dining at its heart, from its earliest restaurants to the grand culinary traditions shaped by figures such as Auguste Escoffier. There has been a Savoy Grill for as long as there has been a Savoy Hotel, and over the decades it has become one of London’s most celebrated dining rooms, synonymous with classic hospitality, timeless British and European cooking, and an unmistakable sense of occasion.

This Father’s Day, that sense of occasion takes on a more personal form as Savoy Grill unveils its first ever Host & Roast experience, inviting fathers and father figures to take centre-stage in one of London’s most iconic restaurants.
Available on Sunday 21st June, the experience transforms the traditional Sunday roast into a moment of ceremony, theatre and family memory. At the heart of the table is a magnificent saddle of lamb, sourced from HG Walter and served with all the hallmarks of a classic Savoy Grill Sunday Roast. Yet on this occasion, the honour of carving belongs not to the kitchen, but to the father figure at the table.

It is a simple idea, beautifully staged: the family gathered around, the silverware catching the light, the lamb presented with Savoy precision, and one guest invited to play host in the grandest sense. In a dining room already rich with history, the ritual of carving becomes both performance and tribute.
Each father will also leave with a keepsake apron, a fitting memento of the day and a reminder of a Father’s Day spent not only being celebrated, but taking part in the occasion itself.

Priced at £85 per person, Host & Roast is available for bookings of four to eight guests between 12pm and 5pm. It is a meal designed to be remembered not only for what is on the plate, but for the person who carved it.
At Savoy Grill, where London history and culinary theatre have always gone hand in hand, Father’s Day becomes more than lunch. It becomes a family ritual, a performance of generosity, and a moment worthy of one of the city’s most legendary dining rooms.
