Why you need to book in at The Stratford, Autograph Collection

London hotels have to hit a certain criteria: architecture like no other, visual appeal, a location within walking distance of the city’s top shopping and attractions, social media friendly décor, food that is a real taste sensation, and luxurious rooms that offer a real sense home comfort. The Stratford, Autograph Collection is like no other East London hotel we’ve experienced in London; more a community than a hotel, it’s one of the city’s hidden secrets, and for very good reason.

Opened back in May 2019, the Stratford hotel is a stone’s throw from the Westfield Stratford shopping centre and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where you’ll find ABBA Voyage, with fast transport links to Central London. Its 42-storey tower turns heads before you even enter – depending on the light, the facade shifts from warm terracotta to cool grey, creating a striking illusion that changes throughout the day. On entering the extravagant, high-ceilinged lobby, you get a real sense of the spectacular design here.

Small touches make all the difference at The Stratford. There’s a pick ’n’ mix station at check-in, alongside an array of flavoured waters to help guests rehydrate after travel – a fun, thoughtful welcome that sets the tone for your stay. The hotel’s 145 rooms are modern, chic, and above all, comfortable. Interiors follow a calming, natural palette of neutrals, charcoal and wood, lifted with soft accents of red. From Standard and superior to executive, deluxe, junior and family rooms all the way up to the Stratford suite and the showstopping Manhattan Studio – every option is impeccably styled.

Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the rooms with natural light (ideal for flawless makeup application) and offer sweeping views across East London. Mood lighting creates the perfect ambience, while Egyptian cotton sheets add a touch of indulgence. Bathrooms are generous in size and come equipped with freestanding bathtubs, walk-in showers, and one of the Arcadia team’s favourite brands: Jo Loves, in the signature Pomelo scent – the ultimate fresh and zesty grapefruit fragrance. There are even cosy hooded tops for lounging, along with robes – and of course, umbrellas are on hand for the ever-unpredictable British weather.

Down in the lobby and out on the terrace, guests can expect everything from Spritz Happy Hour to oyster specials. The Lounge is a relaxed yet elegant social space where you can unwind by the modern fireplace, catch up with friends over a glass of wine, or log in and catch up on emails. Plush armchairs and stylish surroundings make it easy to settle in, whether you’re sipping a cocktail or enjoying a bite to eat. From Friday to Sunday, afternoon tea is also served – perfect for a relaxed treat in beautiful surroundings.

All-day dining takes place in Kitchen E20, where British cuisine gets a fresh, modern update. With its open-plan kitchen, the space feels lively and welcoming and we were lucky enough to visit just as the new seasonal spring menu launched that day. Highlights begin with irresistible small plates to graze on while you decide your order: salt & pepper squid balls with jalapeño mayo and sticky pork belly bites glazed in soy and sesame are standout grazing plates.

You can’t visit Kitchen E20 without ordering the steak tartare as a starter – presented like a piece of art with gherkin, lovage, and nasturtium leaves, it’s a flavour-packed classic done right. We also loved the duck & pistachio terrine, which offered an elegant balance of turnip, truffle, and rhubarb. For mains, the lamb neck served with asparagus and wild garlic brought all the flavours of spring in one beautifully cooked dish. Vegan diners are in for a treat too, with plates like heritage carrots with coriander, za’atar and coconut offering bold, satisfying flavour.

Breakfast is served daily at Kitchen E20, with all the classics – a full English, shakshouka, eggs Benedict – plus fresh juices, fruit, and pastries from the buffet counter, and artisan coffee from cult favourite Kiss the Hippo.

Come evening, head up to the Mezzanine Bar; a sleek, Manhattan-inspired cocktail lounge that mixes up classics and creative tipples, with an extensive spirit and Champagne list. Expect DJs and live music on weekends that keep the atmosphere buzzing well into the early hours.

And if you’re feeling sluggish the next day or trying to beat jet lag, the 24-hour gym on the first floor has all the latest Technogym equipment and those same sweeping views to keep you motivated.

Before heading home, you’ll be handed a sustainable souvenir bag at check-out – a thoughtful parting gift filled with little touches to remember your stay. Inside, expect a branded pencil and herb and flower seeds to grow at home. A lovely reminder that at The Stratford, it’s all in the detail.
