It was an unforgettable evening at Somerset House, where we gathered for the unveiling of the rare and remarkable Glenlivet 56-Year-Old. A night as exceptional-and as rare as the whisky itself.
From the moment we entered, time seemed to slow. The room glowed softly, its warmth reflecting the deep amber spirit at the centre of the celebration. At each place setting, personalised etchings of our names added a refined, intimate touch-an honour that set the tone for what was to come. Gentle, ambient melodies from harpists drifted through the space, wrapping the evening in a quiet, elegant charm.
This was more than an event; it was a celebration where heritage, mastery, and the profound dignity of time came together in perfect harmony.

Honouring Heritage And Mastery
At the heart of it all stood The Glenlivet Eternal Collection 56-Year-Old—a creation shaped by more than half a century of dedication. Its presence alone commanded admiration. Matured through countless seasons and decades, tended with extraordinary care by CaskMaster Kevin Balmforth and his team it had reached a state of perfect balance, awaiting the exact moment worthy of its reveal. And on this night, that moment arrived.

A Rare Presentation
This 56-Year-Old expression forms the second edition of The Eternal Collection, and is an ultra-rare release limited to only 60 bottles worldwide. It is presented in a bespoke, sculptural decanter created by the renowned London Avante-garde design studio Fredrikson Stallard—a spherical glass vessel with a 24-carat gold-plated neck and cap, resting on a brass-plated base.
Delicate metallic heather-branch details rise from the base, transforming the decanter into a piece of art inspired by the rugged landscape of Speyside. It is a bold fusion of heritage and modern artistry—an object as extraordinary as the liquid it holds.

Tasting Notes
We were incredibly fortunate to taste this whisky led by Kevin. Matured for over five decades in sherry-seasoned casks constructed in Spain. seasoned with a unique blend of Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and Palo Cortado for a year, before being brought to Speyside. The Dram embodies time, patience, and craftsmanship in every drop….and as so smooth!
On the nose, it offers notes of poached plums, sticky dates, and rich dark-chocolate ganache.
On the palate, layers unfold with fresh blackberries, cherry compote, white bananas, and a velvety sweetness. The finish is long, complex, and deeply indulgent, lingering with enduring notes of dark chocolate.
A Piece of History
Only 60 bottles exist in the world-each one priced at approximately €52,500, making this not only a whisky, but a piece of living history. On this spectacular evening, The Glenlivet did more than unveil a collection. It unveiled a moment that can never be repeated. Enjoy & Slàinte mhath.
