We began the evening the way all good evenings should: with a shot of vodka and a spoonful of caviar. Cold, clean, and unapologetically indulgent the perfect prelude to a night at Bébé Bob, Soho’s singular ode to chicken and Champagne. Bébé Bob has carved out a distinct niche: a dining room where French-leaning luxury meets playful irreverence, and where roast chicken, caviar, and cold martinis share the table.
Our starters set the tone a classic prawn cocktail, updated just enough to feel intentional, and a tuna tartare dressed with grated truffle, which delivered opulence in every bite.
Mains followed with two standouts: the now-iconic Shnugget Caesar Salad, a delicious dish of crisp romaine and house made chicken nuggets under a snowstorm of aged parmesan; and a Chicken Schnitzel, light yet deeply flavourful, from slow-grown Cotswold birds, its crust crackling under a slow-melting dollop of garlic butter. With it, we ordered a trio of sides: tomato salad, sautéed garlic kale, and carrots and parsnips glazed in organic honey and chicken fat each one chosen to cut or complement, depending on the moment.
But the real story of the night was dessert. Bébé Bob’s new summer collaboration with Happy Endings Ice Cream is a limited-edition menu running through September and it’s one of the more exciting things to happen in London dining this season.
The Sour Cream Soft Serve topped with Oscietra caviar and extra virgin olive oil was bold, salty-sweet and entirely moreish, while the Profiterole filled with chocolate and soft serve offered richness without weight. We paired them with a 100 Raspberries Royale, a crisp, elegant cocktail from the ever-exacting Mr Lyan.
This is the magic of Bébé Bob: it never takes itself too seriously, but every element is seriously good. The collaboration with Happy Endings feels like a natural extension of the restaurant’s DNA, a little bit of theatre, a lot of pleasure, and a wink to those in the know.
