Beneath the sultry shimmer of the South China Sea, Hong Kong has unfurled a celebration of unexpected charm, a birthday so heart-warming and extravagant, it could only belong to the city’s most cherished darlings: the panda twins.
This is no ordinary fête. It’s a citywide homage wrapped in whimsy and wonder, orchestrated with signature Hong Kong flair and a certain mischievous guest star. Enter LABUBU, the cult vinyl creature created by artist and author Kasing Lung, reborn for the occasion in bamboo green, wearing a polka-dot birthday hat, and nestled within a limited-edition gift box. Each comes adorned with a bespoke birthday card penned by the artist himself — a keepsake for the lucky few.
From 25 July, visitors to Ocean Park — the iconic home of the twins — can pre-register to join an exclusive draw running throughout August. With only 300 birthday gift boxes available, each day brings the tantalising possibility of leaving with a piece of collectible magic.
But the celebration spills far beyond the park gates. Across Hong Kong, panda joy radiates from MTR station installations to playful panda-themed road signs, while Ocean Park itself becomes a playground of delight. Expect charming photo spots, LINE FRIENDS collaborations, splash zones, and surprise giveaways, panda badges, party hats, and irresistible moments for your camera roll.
This is Hong Kong at its most imaginative: where art, celebration, and storybook joy collide beneath a skyline of legends. A month-long ode to nostalgia and two very beloved pandas.
