Getaways at La Fosse. Cranborne, Wimborne

After spending a day in Cranborne’s peaceful surroundings, we found ourselves discussing what we would do when we got ‘home’. By home we meant La Fosse.

The inviting and authentic atmosphere of this family-run bed and breakfast fills every nook and cranny. At La Fosse, cosy corners and couches are adorned by the warmth of log burners, and the genuine hospitality of owners Mark and Emmanuelle and their team. You immediately feel welcomed and very quickly realise you have stumbled across a cherished anchor of this community.

Mark and Emmanuelle joined the Cranborne community 18 years ago. Captivated by the rich history and picturesque setting of Cranborne, they embarked on their own venture.

The intimate restaurant at La Fosse promises a scrumptious feast. Carefully selected ingredients and exquisitely prepared dishes at this quaint but fiercely charming dining spot, make La Fosse exceptionally popular. Mark and Emmanuelle pride themselves on their commitment to showcasing the best of locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, and our breakfast table was full of delights from Mark’s own gardening grace. Be sure to chat to Mark about projects and activities in the area including the new community orchard.

La Fosse offers a delightful and wholesome tasting menu, complemented by a handpicked selection of local beverages, along with a carefully curated wine list. To finish, enjoy an indulging dessert and the award-winning cheese board, which is a must. Even if you are full to the absolute brim, you will not be able to resist more of Mark’s culinary creations.

La Fosse offers six rooms named after favourite cheeses, a cosy lounge and summer garden. Whether visiting for a solo retreat, a romantic getaway or a vacation with family and friends, La Fosse ensures a great visit. During our stay, we enjoyed the Old Winchester Suite, which features a generous super king size bed and an en-suite with a separate bathtub and large walk-in shower. The suite also includes a private lounge area with a garden view, which could also be transformed into a second bedroom for children. As a group, you can opt for a ‘home takeover’ which includes exclusive use of La Fosse.

La Fosse also caters perfectly to the active spirit. Nestled in the Dorset countryside, walking and cycling enthusiasts will delight in the vast surroundings on your doorstep. You can enjoy leisurely walks through the quaint historic streets or lush rolling meadows alongside the river Crane. For those wishing to venture further afield, Mark and Emmanuelle are on hand to provide local recommendations on how best to enjoy the natural surroundings, by foot or cycle.

To keep you well fuelled on your excursions, picnic hampers can be prepared and enjoyed whilst you are out on the move. On your return, you can spend the evening at the onsite Scandinavian BBQ hut with dinner in the garden or settle down indoors for a delicious meal at the restaurant. At the end of each day, bicycles and gear can all be stored at the home, while you get some well-earned rest and recovery.

Whether you’re yearning for a cosy winter weekend getaway or a refreshing summer escape, La Fosse is perfectly suited. If you are seeking to strengthen connection with community and surroundings, this is a charming way to experience this stunning region. La Fosse has a clear dedication to cultivating peaceful and meaningful relationships with both their surroundings and welcoming new people to the Cranborne community.
