Pregnancy is a moment of magic and metamorphosis, one where the body becomes both a vessel and a canvas. And while everyone talks about that elusive “pregnancy glow,” few mention the less glamorous changes that accompany it: sudden breakouts, newfound sensitivities, pigmentation patches, and the constant stretch and shift of the skin as it makes room for new life.
But with the right care, these changes don’t have to feel overwhelming. A thoughtful, pregnancy-safe skincare routine can be grounding and empowering, a daily act of connection that keeps the skin supple, strong, and radiant from head to toe.
To better understand the science behind glowing pregnancy skin — and how to nurture it safely, we turned to Jacqueline Yong, founder of Jacqueline Organic, a skincare brand rooted in organic formulations and tailored facials for expectant mothers. Her expertise bridges the gap between hormonal science and holistic care, offering a refreshingly real approach to pregnancy skincare.

Weleda Stretch Mark Massage Oil (£25.95)
A time-tested favourite infused with almond and wheat germ oils to support elasticity. When massaged in daily, it helps skin feel stronger and more supple as it adapts to change.
Bamford Geranium Hand and Body Lotion (£70)

Grove England Anemone Body Wash (£35)
Gentle yet luxurious, this cleanser leaves skin smooth and hydrated, making even a quick shower feel like a spa ritual.
The foundation of pregnancy skincare lies as much in ritual as in formulation. Gentle cleansing, consistent moisturising, and mindfulness all play their part.
Yong advises opting for a cream or gel cleanser that respects the skin’s natural barrier, followed by lightweight hydration to maintain elasticity and comfort. Long, hot showers, tempting though they are, can strip natural oils and worsen dryness, so lukewarm water and brief rinses are kinder to changing skin.
Hydration from within is equally vital. “Water supports elasticity and helps the skin adapt as it stretches,” Yong explains. “Pair that with a nutrient-rich diet, vitamins C and zinc for collagen synthesis, and plenty of protein, to help the skin rebuild and repair.”
Massage, she adds, is both therapeutic and effective. Using natural oils such as rosehip or almond, gentle circular motions boost blood flow, aid lymphatic drainage, and may reduce the appearance of stretch marks. “It’s not just skincare,” she says. “It’s a moment of connection with your changing body.”
Pregnancy transforms the body and how we care for it. A skincare routine rooted in gentleness, hydration, and mindful self-care can make the journey feel both beautiful and grounding.
