First Impressions
I’m not a stranger to a sunshine escape – but walking into the Royal Apollonia with my husband in hand in early November, when it’s drizzly and cold at home, makes all that feel like a distant memory. After just over a four-hour flight from Heathrow, you step out of the taxi and into a lobby framing that postcard-perfect ocean view, sparkling behind chic black-and-white striped parasols. It’s impossible not to feel slightly smug at the thought of spending the next four days here in five-star luxury.
Rooms & Amenities
Established in 1971 on the calmer, more relaxing side of Limassol, the hotel offers bed and breakfast, half board and all-inclusive options. The 204 rooms feel clean and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows and those unmistakable Frederic Malle Magnolia toiletries – if you know, you know.
Evenings bring a sense of excitement drifting across the balconies: hairdryers humming, outfits being chosen, conversations of the night ahead, accompanied by the sound of the ocean below. A brilliant practical touch is the inclusion of UK plug sockets in the rooms, especially for anyone who can’t travel without their Dyson Airwrap like me. Come evening, complimentary chocolates are delivered to your room, accompanied by a card with the quote of the day – a charming touch to the housekeeping team’s evening service.

Dining: A Trip Around the World
Aura Dining
The buffet restaurant Aura Dining hits all the right notes. On the first night, all we could think about was halloumi – when in Cyprus and there it was, perfectly squeaky and served alongside the island’s famous cheeses. The spread changes daily and offers everything from vibrant salads and beautifully cooked meats to generous regional dishes and themed options that keep things interesting. Desserts are served in small portions, giving you full permission to sample a few…it would be rude not to – the apple tart was a standout and incredibly moreish, so much so that a second slice didn’t last long. There is also the option to dine alfresco, with wow-factor views of the ocean.
Alati Greek
At Alati Greek, we enjoyed some of the best traditional dishes we’ve ever tasted, without actually being in Greece. The pitta and tzatziki were seriously moreish, the Greek salad was fresh and full of flavour, and the grilled sea bass was cooked to perfection – as were the juicy prawns. A tailored wine list complements the food beautifully.

Akakiko Japanese
Akakiko, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, comes with panoramic views and a menu full of favourites. You’ll find the usual stars of the show like teriyaki salmon, sushi, gyoza dumplings and chicken cashew, every dish a taste sensation, and the trio of mini desserts rounded things off perfectly.

Evenings & Entertainment
After dinner, it would be rude not to enjoy a cocktail or two with a side of live music in the background. If you feel like exploring further, a short taxi ride will bring you to the stylish Limassol Marina.
Pools, Beach & Sunshine Living
With three pools to choose from, the sun loungers alone are reason enough to spend the day in full relaxation mode – they’re so comfortable you won’t want to move. Overlooking the sea, they offer the perfect vantage point to watch the waves while soaking up some vitamin D. Just a few steps lead you directly onto the sand, where the Mediterranean sea feels like stepping into a warm bath – the kind of temperature that leaves you feeling refreshed and revived. Water sports are available through an external company for anyone wanting a little adventure.
The swim-up bar runs until the end of October, but even in November you won’t be left wanting; a friendly waiting team circles throughout the day so you never have to leave your lounger. The freshly made lemonade and the lychee iced tea are both perfect ways to cool down in the sunshine.

Hospitality That Feels authentic
What truly sets Royal Apollonia apart is the way it nurtures both guests and staff. The hospitality here is warm, genuine and clearly shaped by General Manager Harry, who has cultivated a family-like community rather than a checklist-driven sterile hotel environment. Many of the team have been here for years, and even the newer staff speak openly about how well they’re supported. Initiatives like team ambassadors, World Chef Day masterchef-style activities and International Housekeeping Day all add to that strong sense of belonging.
You’ll often see locals popping in daily just to enjoy a coffee while listening to the waves, or groups celebrating special occasions over afternoon tea – always a sign that the hotel has built a sense of community.
The Royal Spa
Downstairs you’ll find the Royal Spa that offers an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, well-equipped gym and a programme of fitness classes including yoga and body sculpt. Its popularity is clear from the 200 local members.
We started with a hot, steamy session in the sauna and steam room, both of which are generously sized and incredibly relaxing. The Swedish couples massage is a must when on a couples’ break, especially if your legs are tight from walking or your shoulders are permanently hunched over an iPhone. Every muscle is worked on with care, and the attention to detail like a warm lemongrass-scented towel placed over you mid-treatment.

Breakfast with a View
Breakfast is a relaxed buffet with everything you could want: a made-to-order omelette station, beautifully arranged cheeses and cured meats, enormous bowls of fresh fruit, honey oozing from the comb and delicate mini pastries. Sitting outside is an absolute must; there’s nothing quite like sipping your morning coffee, or even a glass of fizz, while taking in that calm ocean view.
The Big Question: Will We Return?
We plan our return. Just like so many other guests who come here again and again, the number of repeat visitors says it all – this is the kind of place where you’ll wish you’d stayed just one more day. Royal Apollonia has that rare ability to make you forget what day of the week it is, and that is exactly what a winter escape should do.
Don’t miss the Black Friday deal coming on 21st November – it’s the perfect chance to plan your Royal Apollonia getaway for less.
