London doesn’t need another brunch. What it does need is one with character, a sense of fun, and food that goes beyond the avocado-on-toast formula. Blue Boar Pub, tucked inside Conrad London St. James, has answered the call with The Great British Brunch. Starting early September and running every Saturday from 12 to 4pm, it takes familiar British staples and polishes them until they shine.
This is brunch that knows its roots yet isn’t afraid to stir things up.
British Classics, Rewritten
The menu is a playful love letter to comfort food. Soft-boiled duck eggs come with golden soldiers, proof that simplicity still holds power when done right. Eggy bread arrives with raspberry and mint cream, striking that sweet–savoury balance you didn’t know you wanted. Then there’s the ultimate breakfast sarnie, stacked with grilled bacon, Cumberland sausage, fried egg and tomato, with the option to crown it all with smoked Applewood cheese.
For something heartier, the corned beef hash topped with a fried duck egg is pure satisfaction, while the kedgeree – smoked haddock, spiced rice, sweet peas and a boiled egg – delivers tradition with a fresh kick. Even the baked beans on toast get a lift with Old Winchester cheese.
And because no brunch is complete without a touch of indulgence, a toasted tea cake arrives scattered with plum compote, hazelnut brittle and honeycomb.
Drinks That Set the Mood
The drinks play just as big a role. For £25 per guest, free flowing Prosecco, Bellinis, Mimosas or Rossinis keep the table lively for ninety minutes. Then there’s the signature “Flying” Bloody Mary, mixed with Absolut Elyx, tomato juice and Blue Boar’s own spicy blend before being topped with a theatrical yuzu cloud. This isn’t a cocktail, it’s a performance.
Why It Works
The Great British Brunch is clever without being pretentious. It respects the food we grew up with but refuses to serve it flat. Each dish has a twist, each drink a flourish, and the whole experience feels distinctly London. It’s polished, playful and just the right amount of indulgent.
This is a brunch with a London accent.
