Where Food, Wellness and Atlantic Views Collide: Tivoli La Caleta Tenerife

It’s around this time of year, when it’s a tad grey in the UK, that a sun-soaked holiday feels like the only way to get us through spring. And where better to escape to than the volcanic island of Costa Adeje, Tenerife?

Tivoli La Caleta Tenerife Resort is the ultimate year-round sunshine-soaked getaway, thanks to its range of luxury facilities and its appeal as both a foodie and wellness destination. Just a short taxi ride from the airport, it also enjoys the sparkling Atlantic Ocean as its backdrop.

Think terracotta-toned exteriors contrasted with lush green plants and cactus, with pops of blue throughout.

The accommodation leans into a ‘tradition meets timeless luxury’ vibe, with a natural colour palette and tactile materials that never feel overwhelming, creating calm spaces where a deep, restful sleep feels very much part of the plan.

Outside, the scene widens beyond a 32-metre pool – so turquoise it practically glows in the sun. Another pool is framed by terracotta arches, punctuated by dramatic mountains on the horizon. Subtropical gardens and palm trees dance in the backdrop, creating a palette of deep green, terracotta and three shades of blue: the pools, the sea and the sky.

Check-in is seamless, you’re greeted with a glass of Spanish cava or fruit-infused water while the reception team allocates your room. It’s a super relaxed and welcoming start, with a map and crucial restaurant opening hours explained and written down – helpful, as this usually goes in one ear and out the other when all that’s on your mind is: what will the room look like?

Talking of rooms, Tivoli La Caleta features 284 rooms and suites, including deluxe and premium rooms, some with ocean views, as well as a range of suite options, two of which feature a private jacuzzi.

Rooms feel very much designed for relaxation – not sterile hotel-room style in the slightest with balconies dressed in Tivoli’s signature terracotta and softened with lush green planting, framed by floor-to-ceiling glass doors that flood the space with light.

Bedrooms are bedecked with contemporary design features and generous amenities – think coffee machines, a fully stocked minibar, generously sized flatscreen TVs, the most comfortable slippers and fluffy, roomy robes. Many open onto wraparound balconies overlooking the pools below, perfect for a little people-watching.

Bathrooms are equally striking and spacious, with duo sinks and a supersized bathtub – with enough room for numerous beauty products and, naturally, a glass of fizz on the side, because when on vacation.

There are four restaurants in total. The hotel’s signature buffet restaurant, Gusto, offers a wide selection of dishes that you’ll need to restrain yourself from sampling everything – perfect for children who are fussy eaters.

Guilty Restaurant is where you can refuel and enjoy a tapas-themed lunch while overlooking the pool. Yakuza Restaurant flies the flag high for Japanese cuisine, with sophisticated oriental décor and an open sushi bar where chefs roll sushi before your eyes.

Then there’s Seen by Oliver – the place to be seen, as the name suggests, for daytime lounging or evening sundowner cocktails, often accompanied by live music.

Team that with wagyu beef and truffle linguini, octopus carpaccio with Champagne sauce, fish of the day tacos and vibrant beach-club dining, plus tables set on the sand beneath twinkling fairy lights and the sea in the background, and you have the exact recipe for what holiday dinners should be all about.

The hotel also features an array of bars, many with live music, as well as a sports bar for live game action. Fancy the quintessentially British tradition of afternoon tea? There’s even a tea room with a fireplace to enjoy.

Now, when it comes to breakfast buffets, let’s face it – we’ve sampled a lot and an omelette station, decent coffee (not just filter on offer) and a good pastry selection are non-negotiable. Tivoli shows exactly how luxury hotels should follow suit.

At Gusto Restaurant, the breakfast spread is generous: seasonal fruit, charcuterie and cheeses, an array of fresh breads, and even a waffle cart.

Plus, the opening hours from 7–11am work perfectly for both early birds and late risers. If you prefer to get that morning power walk in before breakfast, suite guests can also enjoy an à la carte-style breakfast at La Caleta Lounge.

A typical Tenerife day here can easily be spent dipping in and out of the swimming pools; there’s a saltwater pool, kids’ pool and an adults-only option.

Ultra-comfortable sun loungers are dotted around the pool area, with the relaxing sound of the ocean waves in the background rather than loud music.

Struggling with an umbrella? The pool team appear like magic to help, and let’s not forget drinks delivered straight to you, because it would be rude not to rehydrate with a chilled glass of sangria or two.

If wellness is one of your top priorities when travelling, you’ll find professional padel courts and a state-of-the-art Tivoli Shape fitness gym equipped with Technogym equipment. But if relaxation is more your aim, Tivoli has a seriously impressive Anantara Spa, inspired by the healing traditions of Thailand.

Here you can unwind and enjoy a thoughtfully curated spa menu of treatments – the Oasis of Serenity 90-minute anti-stress ritual is definitely the one to book after a flight.

The spa facilities are impressive, with a vitality indoor pool, sauna, ice igloo, steam bath and both indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.

If sunshine, food worth staying in the hotel for and luxury accommodation are on your agenda, there’s nowhere quite like Tivoli La Caleta.
