Wake up at Sugar Beach

Situated on the south western part of St Lucia, between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Pitons is Sugar Beach, one of the most spectacular resorts in the world.

At Sugar Beach the luscious tropical rainforest meets the warm Caribbean sea. This 18th century former sugar plantation spans over 100 acres from an exquisite white sand beach studded with majestic palm trees to the wall of the Petit Piton.

Over 2000 years ago the original settlers to the island arrived, the Amerindians placed an incredible spiritual significance to the Pitons.

Atabeyra, the female goddess of fertility, which included agriculture, flora fauna, valleys and water) was associated with the Petit Piton and Huracan, the male god who controlled the elements, skies, volcanoes, storms and hurricanes was associated with the Gros Piton.

Sugar Beach has hosted some of Hollywood’s elite, including; Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Hemsworth and Ben Affleck, to name a few. It was once owned by Lord Glenconner, famously known for his close friendship to Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.

There are 130 guestrooms, villas, bungalows and residences at Sugar Beach, each offering a unique experience. From the contemporary beachfront bungalows that offer direct access to the icing sugar sand beaches to the elegant and discreet luxury cottages hidden in the emerald greenery of the rainforest.

The luxury cottages are perfect examples of the resort’s plantation history with white walls and furniture, soaring high-beamed ceilings and a grand four-poster bed. Venture out onto your terrace and sip on a chilled Piton beer in your private plunge pool.

All guests are allocated a mobile phone which is connected to a butler service. The butlers are a ray of sunshine and will happily make even your wildest dreams come true.

Luckily the volcano is considered dormant as it hasn’t erupted since the 1700s and offers visitors the opportunity to dive into the therapeutic natural mud baths.

People from around the world come to the baths to experience the detoxifying qualities and help heal sunburn, eczema, arthritis and sore joints. The mud is magical and is said to make you look 12 years younger. It will certainly give you the smoothest and most hydrated skin of your life.

After you’ve applied the mud and let it harden in the sun, rinse it off with a refreshing natural rainforest thermal bath.
