The Neighbourhood Gem: Soutine

Situated on a corner of St John’s Wood High Street, Soutine is a charming informal neighbourhood cafe which has won the hearts of diners, local and from afar. The intimate and affordable Parisian-style cafe pays homage to the great boulevard cafes of Paris with an impressive menu to match.

Soutine may be one of the most relaxed yet romantic restaurants in London. From the moment you enter you are seduced by the smell of French cuisine, dim lighting and the waitstaff that glide around the restaurant like Fred Astaire. It is like being transported to Paris in the 1920s, you half expect to see Hemingway propping up the bar.

The staff are charming, bursting with energy, keep an eye out for a waiter called Henrique, he is captivating and knowledgeable, with the best wine and food recommendations. Start with the magnificent Whole Globe Artichoke and the rich and buttery Escargots à la Bourguignonne, next opt for the decadent Souffle Suissesse and the Pan-Seared Fillet of Sea Bass with tenderstem broccoli and sauce vierge, with a side of ratatouille. Last but certainly not least a perfect slab of Black Forest Gateau and the Tarte Fine aux Pommes. Soutine is seductive, oozes old world charm and an impressive unpretentious menu, without doubt one of our favourite eateries in the city.
