ULI, Marylebone – Contemporary Asian Cooking

Marylebone’s culinary landscape just got a tasteful twist, thanks to the creative minds behind Notting Hill’s ULI and Chelsea’s beloved HUŎ. Graham Rebak and Adam Wilkie, in collaboration with founder Michael Lim, has introduced ULI Marylebone to Seymour Place, adding authentic Asian flavours to the heart of W1.

The picture-perfect restaurant serves up a fusion of clean, fresh, and wholesome Asian cuisine, handcrafted by a talented team of chefs. The menu is a journey through China and Southeast Asia, meticulously prepared with traditional techniques from Chinese, Thai, Malay, and Singaporean culinary traditions. Forget clichéd categories; here, you’ll find an artful selection of snacks, small plates, and mains, each boasting its own unique flavours.

The buzzy restaurant itself is simply stunning, thanks to Jonathan Clark Architects, known for their close collaboration with clients. The interior embodies the restaurant’s ethos, reflecting its simple, cosy, laid-back theme. Natural oak, soft shades of blue and contemporary art – they’ve enlisted the talents of Cody Choi, a Hong Kong-born photographer renowned for his striking portraits of dancers – give the restaurant a beautifully clean and informal look.

The gorgeous interior aside, the food is exquisite. Small bites include Pacific five spice pork ribs, Asparagus with black bean, chilli and ginger and beautifully presented Vietnamese prawn summer rolls. Next, diners can dive into the Crispy aromatic duck with paper-thin pancakes, Szechuan chilli prawns, Crisp-fried cod fillet and Pan-fried teriyaki black cod with asparagus.

Carnivores can enjoy ULI’s Crispy shredded chilli beef or Stir-fried beef fillet with spicy black pepper sauce, accompanied by fluffy Steamed jasmine rice or seriously delicious Singapore fried rice. In the mood for something with a kick? The Jungle curry is simply divine. Healthy, spicy and comforting, it’s the ideal winter warmer.

The bar offers an array of Asian-inspired cocktails, alongside sought-after Japanese whiskies, vodkas, and craft beers. Signature concoctions include the Asian Negroni (gin, Campari, vermouth, sake) and the Lychee Martini (vodka, vermouth, lychee). The wine list is equally impressive and comprehensive, ranging from French Gewurztraminer to Argentinian Malbec.

Dessert – if you don’t over-order mains (a challenge) and have room – include Chocolate coolant, Yuzu citrus junos cheesecake and ever-popular Mochi ice cream.

With a passionate team boasting a wealth of experience in creating and launching some of London’s most sought-after destinations and brands, ULI Marylebone is a fabulous addition to the neighbourhood’s culinary scene, making it an absolute must-visit.
