Barceló Nura, Menorca

Menorca is a mellow beauty that lies peacefully in the Balearic Islands. Also known as Mallorca’s little sister, the island is located in the western Mediterranean Sea, neighbouring the party island of Ibiza. With an estimated 70,000km of dry-limestone cobbled path walls, the island remains distinctly rural, characterised by turquoise-watered bays, sun-bleached sand and pine trees that fringe the coast.

Ideally located just a short drive from Mahon airport, on the south coast of Menorca, is Barceló Group’s newest hotel, Barceló Nura. Built with the utmost respect for the community and a focus on sustainability in mind, the hotel features traditional, low-level, Menorcan architecture that fits in perfectly with the local area. Barceló Nura is bright and contemporary. The interiors consist of neutral-coloured wooden beams, chic rattan chairs and a clever layout that looks out on the glistening Mediterranean Sea.

There are 128 rooms, 45 of which have access to semi-private plunge pools and gardens, and luxury suites that include integrated living areas and terraces. The rooms are light and airy with open-plan bathrooms and minimal, stylish lighting and décor. At the core of comfort, the bedding is cloud-like with a selection of pillow densities to facilitate individual needs.

There are 42 pools in total, including three outdoor swimming pools, and one heated indoor pool. Guests are spoilt for choice with endless opportunities to take a dip in the ultra-modern cubist set-up, bordered by the slanted cobbled paths and palm trees. The wellness spa offers revitalising, aromatherapy massages that exfoliate the skin whilst relaxing the muscles and the centre has advanced water jets, a multi-function shower, ice shower, sauna, and a gym.

On the rooftop is the B-Heaven, a tranquil, serene space that affords stunning 360 views of the hotel and surrounding area. Relish the Mediterranean aura, with expertly crafted cocktails. Sit back and look out to the sea while listening to soothing live music as the rich amber tones set, revealing the starlit sky. If you look carefully, you can see the outline of Mallorca in the distance peeking out behind the umbrella pines.

Designed around organic, seasonal, and local produce, the Roots buffet offers a selection of Spanish culinary for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sa Tanca is their Á la Carte restaurant that serves Menorcan delicacies, including fresh fish and grilled meats. The ‘Menorcan beef tartar served over grilled beef marrow’ is a must-have. The rich, creamy texture releases soaked-up flavours when melting in the mouth. From the Llimona: Lobby & Pool Bar, the ‘Cap Roig,’ (Scorpion fish), tastes much better than it sounds –this juicy fish is served with traditional Spanish Paella and is simply delicious.

Nearby is the Binifadet vineyard where you can experience the art and culture of winemaking, with a tour of their underground wine cellar. Taste a selection of young-aged wine and enjoy food on the beautiful garden terrace specialising in the Menorcan way of life. With a modern rustic aesthetic, high, soaring ceilings, and repurposed white bottle décor, the vineyard is a wonderful day out.

Declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1993, the island of Menorca has some of the best-preserved habitats in the Mediterranean. Mahon, the capital of Menorca, is the second biggest natural port in the world. At the port, embark on a catamaran tour that takes you around the stunning coast. They provide you with light snacks and Pomada, a popular, refreshing cocktail, made with Xoriguer’s gin (gin de Mahón) and lemonade.

Providing memorable experiences for over 9 decades, with defined standards and solid concepts in 25 countries, the Barceló Group’s establishments are top class, and this new venture is no exception. At the height of tranquillity, boundless bliss is found at Barceló Nura. Retaining the beauty of the surrounding landscapes, this environmentally conscious development fits perfectly into the Biosphere reserve, the interiors are sourced from local artisans and reflect the Menorcan beauty.

An all-inclusive programme is available, to make every stay as effortless as possible. For a peaceful holiday, Menorca is the ideal destination.
